Dia Art Foundation presents an exhibition of works by the French artist François Morellet. A prolific painter, sculptor, and installation artist, Morellet was one of the founding members of the Groupe de Recherche d’Art Visuel, an artist’s collaborative that emerged in France in the early 1960s. While Morellet’s systematic art was widely exhibited in Europe, his oeuvre has rarely been shown or studied in the United States.

Coney Island: Visions of an American Dreamland, 1861–2008

Brooklyn Museum until March 13, 2016

For 150 years, Coney Island has lured artists as a microcosm and icon of American culture. Coney Island: Visions of an American Dreamland, 1861–2008 is the first major exhibition to explore the kaleidoscopic visual record they created, documenting the historic destination’s beginnings as a watering hole for the wealthy, its transformation into a popular beach resort and amusement mecca, its decades of urban decline culminating in the closing of Astroland, and its recent revival as a vibrant and growing community.

Royal Academy of Arts Sept 19 - Dec 13 2015

In September 2015, the Royal Academy of Arts will present a landmark exhibition of the Honorary Royal Academician, Ai Weiwei. The exhibition will include significant works from 1993 onwards, the date that marks Ai Weiwei’s return to China following more than a decade living in New York. Ai Weiwei has created new, site-specific installations and interventions throughout the Royal Academy’s spaces.

ART ATHINA 2015 - JUNE 2015

The Greek Contemporary Art Fair - June 4-7 2015

This year the International Meeting of Contemporary Art “Art-Athina 2015”, one of Europeʼs oldest, celebrates its 20th edition. “Art Athina” confirms its endurance, firmly established in the art-loving publicʼs collective conscience, as one of the highly anticipated as well as most influential events in the field of contemporary art. At the core of the show are the participating Greek and foreign art galleries whose presence reflects the artistic orientation of our time; they present to art lovers and the general public a selection of the current artistic production and highlight the latest trends and preoccupations that prevail on the international art scene.

@LARGE // AI WEIWEI ON ALCATRAZ
from September 27 to April 26 2015

The Chinese artist Ai Weiwei is internationally renowned for work that defies the distinction between art and activism. In this exhibition of new works created specifically for Alcatraz, Ai responds to the island’s layered legacy as a 19th-century military fortress, a notorious federal penitentiary. Revealing new perspectives on Alcatraz, the exhibition raises questions about freedom of expression and human rights that resonate far beyond this particular place.
